Fallingwater No. 6

Fallingwatersep200506a

Fallingwater, Western Pennsylvania (Sep. 2005).

Here's one final look at Fallingwater. I don't think my photos did - or could do - justice to the building. In one part, this is due to my constraints (low light, not being allowed to shoot from inside), but I think the remainder is that I had a very hard time expressing what the building meant to me. I'm not sure what that reflects... and why I was blocked from it, but I found that, when my friend and I got to Pittsburgh, my shooting style changed again, and I was no longer blocked.

Fallingwater No. 5a and No. 5b

Two versions of the same shot, one with color, one without, because I'm not sure which works better. I had a hard time shooting at Fallingwater. I don't know if it was because the site was so overpowering to me that I didn't know how to capture it or if it was just that the conditions - the overabundance of green, the low light, the museum's anti-photography* policy - that made my shots feel flat.

Which works better? The color shot or the b&w? I've enabled registration-free commenting for this... let's hope I don't get sp/amme/d to death. (Ignore on Typepad; commenting is enabled)

*Fallingwater allows outdoor photos but not indoor photos. The one exception is an 8:30 am tour of the site, on which you can take indoor photos, that costs $50 per person. That's a little harsh. Nonetheless, while the museum has a bit of an anti-photo policy, the tour guides at Fallingwater are wonderful. Ours was a knowledgeable local artist who tolerated every question (down to my "was this [Bach] score really owned by the residents or is this a placement piece?").

Unrelated:
I don't know how others feel, but I am thoroughly annoyed by the new interface used by Typepad.  I find it sloppy.  I also find that the interface often resizes my photos, regardless of how I pre-set the image's display qualities in HTML.  I'm thinking that this interface does not serve a photoblogger well, and I'm going to start investigating alternatives to this blogging application.  Any suggestions?
