Sorry, kids, it's over. Pack up the boogie boards, dump 'em in the minivan along with the sand that you manage to inadvertently carry with you at the end of each year. The kids are over-tired, sit 'em down in back on the brown fabric seats with a dripping soft ice cream cone from Strollo's or Hoffman's. You've got work on Monday. And I've got my shoreline to get reacquainted with.


I always like finding sand somewhere unexpected--like the crevices of a tote bag or in that little well that dips in the car's trunk. A reminder of summer on a cold and blustery day.

Shoes and backpacks. I'm constantly emptying sand out of shoes that I haven't worn in a while ("what the? oh yeah, now I remember, I went to the beach back in...").
Fortunately, though, I've not engaged in unlawful undressing on beach (per the sign). Off the beach, well....
